Why I Do I Want the CEH Certification?
(Many Professionals Would Say I Don't Need This Certification)
I am very sure that I don't need the EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker Certification at this point in my career. I have previously achieved the CCNA (but it's now expired), I have a current CISM and CISSP, as well as the PMP under my belt. But as I desire to enhance my understanding and knowledge in the realm of cybersecurity, I have a deep desire to pass the Certified Ethical Hacker exam. I know that many other professionals believe that other Penetration Testing certifications should be a priority, but for me, I want to use learning this material (or re-learning it in many instances) as the springboard into expanding my information security knowledge toolset.
For me, there is something lacking in my knowledge and my intent is to use this certification as the starting/expanding point from which I enhance my knowledge base. I know that there are other ways that I could be going about this, but as a certification that is considered overly priced ($1100 just to take the exam), I have already attained the Security+ and CCNA Security (when it was still available), and at some point in my life, I expect to step out more into the cybersecurity world. To me, because my current life situation allows me to afford it, I see this as a great educational opportunity to learn more of the basics as I continue my journey. I identified a simple path for myself, where my first step is CEH, next is PenTest+ (by CompTIA), followed by eJPT, and concluding (for now) with the OSCP. Somewhere in there I will probably re-certify in CCNA but I like to go slow and then actually learn what I am studying. I expect to leverage the "Hack the Box" challenges along the way but that is part of phase 2. Right now, I'm just looking to get past phase 1 - Attain CEH certification to learn the basics!
